All the research that built up to, and is restated in Thinking Fast and Slow is an intellectual revolution that doesn't come along once a generation, but more like something we would expect to see across hundreds of years. Some very basic assumptions we made about thinking that were pervasive in economics, political science, international relations, and more mundane things like every day work a or interpersonal interactions have to be discarded. We are constantly and quickly creating our judgments in the world around us through a set of mental heuristics, or shortcuts that we take in order to be fast enough to function. We also have the ability to do the hard work of serious deductive reasoning (among other slow mental processes). We live in a mental world between these two sorts of processes that is quite different that what was supposed by philosophers and economists for hundreds of years.
